Trump Makes Two Additional Demands to Iran Leading to Delay in Agreement

BlockBeats News, June 11th, according to Axios, if Trump had accepted the terms negotiated by his team last month, he was likely to have reached a preliminary agreement with Iran by the end of May. However, after a White House Situation Room meeting on May 29th, Trump decided to present two additional modification requests to Iran, including:

Iran must begin diluting its enriched uranium stockpile within 60 days;

Iran must commit not to charge any tolls to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

In exchange, Trump was willing to accept the dilution of enriched uranium inside Iran and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). According to sources and U.S. officials, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi told mediators and the U.S. that he needed four to five days to get a response, but this ultimately turned into a nearly two-week wait.

During this time, Trump became increasingly frustrated as the media continued to report on the delayed fulfillment of his promised agreement, some even with a mocking tone. At the same time, hardliners in the U.S. criticized him for being too lenient on Iran. To make matters worse, Iran, both publicly and privately, expressed a desire to first have some frozen assets unfrozen, while Trump insisted that Iran must fulfill its obligations under the agreement first.
