BlockBeats News, June 12th, Coinbase announced the launch of Coinbase for Agents, allowing users to directly connect AI agents to their Coinbase accounts, enabling them to represent users within the set limits to trade, make payments, and execute workflows. The product is currently available in MCP and CLI formats. Users can connect commonly used AI agents such as ChatGPT and Claude to their Coinbase accounts, enabling the agents to possess both financial reasoning and execution capabilities. AI agents can conduct spot and derivative crypto trading within the user's authorized scope and perform tasks such as portfolio rebalancing, limit order trading, and capital efficiency management based on user-defined objectives.

In the future, Coinbase for Agents will expand to stock, index fund, prediction market, and commodity trading. Coinbase also plans to enable x402 support for the product, allowing agents to make payments for proprietary data, computing resources, statistical data, images, and services. Regarding security controls, Coinbase stated that users can have agents operate within a separate portfolio to avoid access to other holdings; future support will include setting specific rules such as maximum trade size, interaction objects, expenditure limits, and more. Coinbase mentioned that related payments will adhere to Coinbase's existing transaction monitoring and KYT checks.

Furthermore, Coinbase noted that Coinbase Advisor has been integrated into the Coinbase App to provide users with direct advice and guidance. Coinbase Advisor is a financial advisor registered with the SEC/CFTC. Coinbase stated that Coinbase for Agents, Coinbase Advisor, and Coinbase Payments form the starting point of its agent-based financial product portfolio for consumers and businesses.
