According to Reuters, three sources familiar with the matter revealed that NVIDIA has introduced a new Vera central processing unit for AI data centers to its Chinese customers, stating that shipments could start as early as August and orders are currently being accepted. NVIDIA's swift introduction of the new product is aimed at regaining its market share in China, as its shipment of the H200 chip to China has been blocked, causing NVIDIA's market share in China to plummet to nearly zero.

The sources mentioned that some Chinese customers have shown interest in a dedicated CPU designed for AI smart bodies. A large Chinese cloud service company plans to order over 300 servers, each equipped with two Vera processors. The customer intends to first deploy them in overseas data centers for testing, and then based on the evaluation results, will decide whether to place additional orders. The widespread adoption of Vera still remains to be seen due to software ecosystem compatibility issues and the challenges of migrating workloads to domestic AI chips.

According to semiconductor research firm Semi's estimates, the price of a single Vera processor before bulk discounts will far exceed $20,000, while a full rack configuration with 256 chips is priced at around $10 million. Currently, global AI demand is shifting from model training to inference computing, further exacerbating the shortage of CPUs. NVIDIA has predicted that by the end of this fiscal year as of January 2026, Vera's sales will reach $20 billion. NVIDIA's introduction has intensified the competition with Intel and AMD, as both companies are aggressively expanding their server CPU supply for AI data centers.
