CoinEx News: Nearly 100 Catholic leaders, organized through the Alliance to End Human Trafficking, wrote to Senate leaders Thune and Schumer on June 23, 2026, opposing the CLARITY Act — the US bill that would split crypto oversight between the SEC and the CFTC. Their target is Section 604, a "safe harbor" that would exempt non-custodial developers (who never hold user funds) from money-transmitter rules. They argue that exemption opens a gap that weakens law enforcement's ability to trace money laundering and human trafficking.
The letter adds fresh friction ahead of a 60-vote Senate floor test before the August recess, in a bill that will decide how US regulators classify tokens and how strictly developers must police illicit flows.
