On July 22nd local time, during a speech in Georgia, U.S. President Trump mentioned that due to disagreements between the Republican and Democratic parties on spending priorities, a federal government "shutdown" will occur in September. On July 21st local time, the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives passed a short-term funding bill to provide funding for federal agencies until December 4th, avoiding a shutdown due to funding running out before the midterm elections in November. This temporary funding measure is also known as a "continuing resolution." The bill will be sent to the Senate for consideration after passage.

Currently, Senate Republican leaders are negotiating with Democrats and considering presenting their own short-term funding proposal.
