Executives from companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google will attend the G7 summit to discuss cutting-edge AI risks and sovereignty issues.

BlockBeats News, June 17th - According to CNBC, CEOs of global leading AI companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind will attend the G7 summit in France this week, demonstrating the increasing geopolitical influence of tech company executives as the AI agenda enters the global mainstream. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, and around a dozen other tech industry executives will participate in a luncheon on Wednesday during the Avignon summit in France. The meeting is expected to discuss cutting-edge AI risks, infrastructure, and sovereignty issues. The Élysée Palace previously stated that child online protection will also be a key topic of discussion.

Jessica Brandt, a Senior Fellow in Technology and National Security at the American Foreign Policy Council, told CNBC that if heads of state want to make credible commitments on the AI agenda, they now need the practical engagement of a few private sector executives who are actually building the relevant tech and even securing their endorsements. She said, "We're seeing a shift in who gets to sit at the negotiation table, which also sends a signal about where power lies." As the G7 summit approaches, Anthropic is still in negotiations with the U.S. government over export control issues related to the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models. Earlier, the U.S. imposed export controls on Anthropic's models due to national security concerns. Emerson Brooking, a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, said the U.S. export control on Anthropic models "changed everything" as the U.S. has shown the willingness to cut off G7 countries and even treaty allies from accessing specific AI capabilities.

Brandt stated that tech companies are expected to drive the formation of a package of voluntary commitments, involving areas such as youth safety, the frontier risks of the internet and biology, which could become de facto global benchmarks. Earlier this month, OpenAI had indicated that tech companies are expected to reach a series of "voluntary commitments" during the summit. Brookings noted that the frontier AI labs aim to shape this discussion before any enforceable rules emerge.
