BlockBeats News, June 21st, revealed that Jaredfromsubway.eth, a well-known MEV bot that has long dominated Ethereum's sandwich attacks, fell victim to a hacker exploiting an automated execution system vulnerability, resulting in a loss of over $7.5 million. Security firm Blockaid stated that this incident was not a traditional phishing attack or smart contract flaw but rather a "reverse MEV honey pot attack" specifically targeting MEV bot decision logic.
The attacker deployed 66 fake token contracts and fake liquidity pools over several weeks, mimicking assets such as WETH, USDC, and USDT, enticing the bot to execute seemingly profitable transactions and approve a malicious auxiliary contract controlled by the attacker. Ultimately, in a single transaction, the attacker invoked all the backdoors, transferring assets such as ETH, USDC, and USDT from the bot's address.
Previous data from the organization showed that between November 2024 and October 2025, the Ethereum network experienced approximately 60,000 to 90,000 sandwich attacks per month, with around 70% involving Jaredfromsubway.eth. Ethereum's co-founder Vitalik Buterin also fell victim to this bot when he conducted a DigitalBits exchange worth around $2 in May of this year.
