Against a backdrop of record-high temperatures and thunderstorms, President Trump delivered a speech emphasizing the "American exceptionalism."

On Saturday evening, Trump stated, "For 250 years, the United States has been the hope, the promise, the light, and the glory of all countries in the world. Looking around the globe, no country can compare to us."

Earlier that day, due to Washington experiencing its hottest Independence Day on record, thousands of people waited in line for hours to attend the "Great American State Fair" and the evening "Salute to America" celebration. Law enforcement authorities then asked them to evacuate the National Mall. Hundreds sought refuge from the heat in nearby museums and federal buildings.

Subsequently, the National Mall was reopened, and people re-entered the secure area to participate in the evening celebration. Trump took the stage after 11 p.m., more than an hour later than scheduled. He said, "The strength and power of America are not things to be ashamed of but things we are deeply proud of."
