NVIDIA Open Sources Medical Physics Simulation Framework to Address Clinical Data Scarcity Challenge in Surgical Robotics

BlockBeats News, July 23: NVIDIA has released an open-source Medical Physics Simulation framework that combines classical physics simulation with generative AI. This framework can batch generate rare clinical edge cases, such as guidewires getting stuck in calcified vessel walls, and has reduced the training time from 5 hours to less than 2 minutes using 8192 parallel environments. This addresses the pain point of extremely scarce real clinical data for surgical robots. Early adopters include CMR Surgical, Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices, and Medtronic. The open-source nature of this framework helps demonstrate system behavior logic to regulatory bodies and establish a chain of approval evidence. However, currently, no strategies trained on this framework have been deployed in actual clinical settings.
