Goldman Sachs CEO Publicly Supports the "CLARITY Act," Takes Different Position Than Banking Industry Peers on Stablecoin Yield Provision

BlockBeats News, July 23, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon made it clear in an interview that he supports advancing the CLARITY Act, although he acknowledged that the bill is not perfect. "Like all legislation, the CLARITY Act has many debatable points, but I think one of the most important things it does is create a level playing field to enhance market stability and allow these markets to develop properly. I am very supportive of advancing the CLARITY Act so that we can establish some market structure and begin to drive the innovation process."

Solomon's endorsement comes as Republican senators are discussing updates to the bill's text, with a full Senate vote expected next week, signaling another step forward for the anticipated cryptocurrency market structure legislation.

Solomon's supportive stance stands in stark contrast to the strong opposition from banking industry peers like JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon. Dimon stated in May of this year that the latest version of the bill "allows them to effectively pay interest on things like deposits, stablecoins, and the like, without the necessary protections," and warned that "banks will not accept this way, and ultimately it will blow up." JPMorgan Chase also proposed in a June blog post that companies offering products with similar functions to traditional bank accounts should be subject to equivalent regulation and consumer protection. The controversy revolves around the stablecoin yield provision.
