BlockBeats News, June 23rd, several former Ethereum Foundation researchers have established the non-profit organization Ethlabs, aiming to propel Ethereum into the next stage of growth and prepare for institutional adoption. The organization has received support from Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin, as well as two major ETH treasury companies, BitMine and SharpLink. Ethlabs stated that with the convergence of stablecoins, tokenized RWAs, funds, and self-sovereign AI business on-chain, these demands are coming to Ethereum. Ethlabs' goal is to ensure that Ethereum can scale to meet these demands, drive faster Ethereum and trusted interoperability, and enable institutions building on Ethereum to achieve neutrality, resilience, privacy, and security.
Ethlabs was co-founded by five former senior Ethereum Foundation researchers who have been involved in several key Ethereum upgrades over the past 10 years. Ethlabs' initial work will focus on the content required for institutional large-scale on-chain operations. The launch of Ethlabs comes at a time when the Ethereum Foundation has recently faced external criticism. The Ethereum Foundation has long played the role of a major supporter and research coordinator for Ethereum, but recently, several key members have left, including two co-executive directors and key leaders of the Protocol Cluster.
Joe Lubin stated that Ethereum is entering the next stage of evolution, where there should be multiple Ethereum stewardship nodes configured in different ways to drive and safeguard the network's core values. Tom Lee, Chairman of BitMine, stated that Ethereum is expected to experience significant growth in institutional and AI agent adoption, and the ecosystem needs a substantial increase in investment in talent and research.
