BlockBeats News, July 23rd. According to Nikkei Asia, Japan is expected to launch a Bitcoin ETF as early as 2028. With the revised Financial Instruments and Exchange Act bringing cryptocurrency into the regulatory scope of financial products, Japan's Financial Services Agency plans to adjust the investment trust rules to allow funds and ETFs to have cryptocurrency as their main investment target, and several asset management institutions are considering participation. Institutional investors in Japan are increasingly interested in cryptocurrency. A survey by Nomura Holdings and Laser Digital shows that about 79% of institutional investors and family offices plan to invest in cryptocurrency in the next 3 years.
However, unlike the U.S. where the Bitcoin ETF is mainly driven by institutional funds, the scale of institutional investors in Japan is relatively limited, and cash accounts for a high proportion of household financial assets. Therefore, individual investor funds may become the main source. Some analysts believe that a Japanese Bitcoin ETF could attract up to ¥30 trillion in fund inflows by the 2028 fiscal year.
