Serenity: SIVE is not just a CPO laser supplier, but a key player in the next-generation optical interconnect architecture

BlockBeats News, June 21st, Serenity published an article to correct a common market misunderstanding of Sivers Semiconductor (SIVE) as merely a CPO vertical expansion laser supplier. Serenity pointed out that SIVE's lasers actually cover all next-generation optical interconnect architectures, including pluggable optical modules, CPO horizontal expansion, CPO vertical expansion, and NPO. The strongest evidence comes from Sivers' collaboration with Jabil: the two jointly developed a 1.6T optical transceiver using CW lasers, effectively bypassing the capacity bottleneck of EML (electro-absorption modulated laser) and consuming less power—Jabil's management described it as a significant moat. Serenity revealed that after Jabil's announcement, other pluggable optical module manufacturers have proactively contacted SIVE and are currently in joint development or certification stages, progress that has not been made public and could lead to new announcements at any time. Since most optical module manufacturers, apart from Lumentum, are not vertically integrated, Sivers' independent laser supply position is therefore more critical.

Looking at a longer timeline, CPO horizontal expansion is set to start in the second half of 2026 (like POET, SIVE is its laser supplier), while CPO vertical expansion is expected to ramp up in the second half of 2027 driven by Ayar and NVIDIA's NVLink CPO ecosystem—this is a core scaling point for the entire optical interconnect track. Serenity stated that from the supply chain perspective, at this juncture, SIVE outshines all players as they likely engaged in design partnerships with companies like Marvell Celestial, Lightmatter, and Lightelligence many years ago. Additionally, at foundries like GFs, Sivers is already a reference laser supplier; and large manufacturers like O-Net are building ELS solutions based on SIVE, targeting the supply chain of mega-scale Asian cloud operators. Starting from 2027, SIVE will be present in almost all new optical interconnect architectures, making it Serenity's most favored laser bottleneck target.

BlockBeats Note: CPO horizontal expansion (CPO scale out) refers to interconnecting optics across racks or clusters for data center-level network expansion; CPO vertical expansion (CPO scale up) refers to increasing the interconnect bandwidth between GPUs/accelerators within a single AI server or rack using CPO.
