BlockBeats News, July 4th, according to The New York Times report, as four officials familiar with the meeting details revealed, in the final stages of negotiations, when Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei hesitated to approve a preliminary ceasefire agreement, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi visited him.

The Iranian President informed the Supreme Leader that the economic situation was dire, and the U.S. naval blockade was strangling Iran. He stated that if the Supreme Leader refused the agreement, he would resign. Additionally, Iran's Central Bank Governor, Abdolnaser Hemmati, wrote to Khamenei, expressing that the country was facing a severe budget crisis. He warned that critical food and medical supplies would run out by the end of August if the naval blockade persisted. Hemmati explained in the letter that Iran could not sell oil at the required scale or find alternative trade routes.

These statements played a crucial role in Ayatollah's final decision to support the agreement. In a brief public statement, he expressed that although he was "principally" against the agreement, if the President received the backing of the Supreme National Security Council, he instructed the President to proceed. Raisi indicated that the Council approved the agreement with 12 out of 13 votes.
