BlockBeats News, July 10, the Federal Reserve System (the Fed) announced the appointment of venture capital firm a16z (Andreessen Horowitz) co-founder Marc Andreessen to join a special workgroup to assist in researching the impact of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) on productivity and the job market.
Andreessen will serve as a member of the Fed's Productivity and Employment Workgroup along with Stanford University economics professor Charles I. Jones, who is currently on leave serving at AI company Anthropic, and Microsoft Corporate Vice President and Xbox CEO Asha Sharma.
In a press release, the Fed stated that this workgroup will assess the impact of AI and other general-purpose technologies on employment and productivity, providing a reference for the central bank to formulate monetary policy.
Established by the newly appointed Fed Chair Wash, this workgroup is one of the five special workgroups tasked with researching key issues in the monetary policy framework. Besides Productivity and Employment, the other four workgroups will focus on Policy Communication, Balance Sheet Policy, Data Quality, and the Inflation Framework.
