Brazilian Court Denies Release Request for "Bitcoin Queen" Defendant in Diet Dispute Case, States Vegan Diet Controversy Does Not Justify Pretrial Detention

BlockBeats News, June 14th, according to Brazilian media, the Brazilian Superior Court of Justice (STJ) recently rejected Mirelis Yoseline Diaz Zerpa's release request. She is one of the defendants related to the "Bitcoin Pharaoh" Glaidson Acácio dos Santos case. Her defense team had previously applied for a change to house arrest on the grounds that the prison could not provide a vegan diet.

The court ruled that dietary preferences are a personal choice, and the prison can make appropriate adjustments within the permitted conditions, but this is not sufficient to constitute a legal basis for lifting preventive detention.

According to the case files, Mirelis had been a fugitive in the United States for nearly four years before her arrest, and she was later deported to Brazil due to visa issues and detained again. The prosecution accuses her of involvement in leading a criminal organization and related financial crimes, linked to operations such as "Kryptos," "Valeta," and "Flyer One."

Furthermore, the court documents also mention that during her time abroad, she was involved in large-scale Bitcoin-related money transfer operations amounting to nearly 20 million Brazilian reals, raising concerns about asset dissipation and the difficulty of tracing the funds. The prosecution believes she still has the ability to access and transfer cryptocurrency assets, posing a continued risk. The case is still under further review.
