Claude Bids Farewell to the Anonymous Era: Anthropic Will Introduce Real-Name Face Scans, Allowing Data Sharing with Law Enforcement Without Subpoenas
  • MYTH0%

BlockBeats News, June 15th, Anthropic recently sent a privacy policy update notification to users, announcing the implementation of a new version of the Terms of Service starting from July 8, 2026. The new policy will not only introduce real-name and facial identity verification but also lower the threshold for disclosing user data to law enforcement agencies, marking a further end to the era of anonymity in large-scale model services.

According to the new rules, in specific scenarios such as detecting account abuse, violations, or underage usage suspicion, Anthropic may require free, Pro, and Max individual users to complete identity verification. The verification process will be conducted through a third-party compliance service provider, Persona, where users will need to upload government-issued identification documents and take a real-time selfie for comparison. Anthropic emphasizes that the biometric and document data uploaded by users will not be stored on Anthropic's own servers and will not be used for model training and marketing.

A more critical change is the adjustment of the data sharing terms. The old policy required user data to be disclosed only in cases of "legal compulsion." The new rule has been modified to state that as long as Anthropic has "good faith belief" that disclosure is "reasonably necessary" to prevent bodily harm, fraud, illegal activity, or maintain platform terms, it may voluntarily share users' conversation records and data with law enforcement agencies or government entities. The adjustment to the data sharing terms applies only to individual consumer-level accounts, while enterprise and API customer data remains protected by commercial confidentiality terms.

Previously, on June 9th, Anthropic had already implemented a mandatory 30-day data retention policy for the most powerful models such as Fable 5 and Mythos 5 to analyze adversarial attacks and jailbreak modes. The policy changes have sparked widespread discussions in the privacy community, and some enterprise users have begun to reassess the privacy boundaries of utilizing Claude.
