Amazon has canceled the release of the biographical film "Artificial" about OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and is seeking to resell it to another distributor.

BlockBeats News, June 19th - Amazon has pulled the movie "Artificial," which tells the story of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's brief impeachment in 2023, from its release schedule and has begun seeking a resale to other movie studios.

The film, directed by Luca Guadagnino, stars Andrew Garfield as Sam Altman and Yura Borisov as OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever. The plot has been compared to an AI version of "The Social Network." Early versions of the script reportedly depicted Altman in a negative light, portraying him as power-hungry and manipulative. In one scene, a quote from computer scientist Geoffrey Hinton referred to Altman as "one of the most manipulative people on Earth."

Reports indicate that as the tone of the final cut of the film turned darker than initially envisioned, Mike Hopkins, the executive in charge of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, decided to cancel the release after viewing a screening.

This decision comes months after Amazon's $50 billion investment in OpenAI. Sources say that due to Altman's increasingly close relationship with the Trump administration and Amazon's founder Jeff Bezos's desire to maintain related ties, the political and commercial sensitivity of the film has heightened. Currently, the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) is seeking a new distributor for "Artificial."
