BlockBeats News, July 23rd, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that it will hold a roundtable discussion at its Washington headquarters on September 17, 2026, to explore topics related to the transition of the U.S. stock market to 24-hour trading. The discussion will include preparations for supporting overnight trading, operations and resilience in a round-the-clock market, and the opportunities and challenges of expanding trading hours.
SEC Chairman Paul Atkins stated in a release, "We are moving toward a new day and a new night for the U.S. stock market. As we extend into overnight trading, I am excited about the U.S. stock market aligning with those markets that have already achieved continuous trading and look forward to achieving a balanced round-the-clock trading while safeguarding investors and customers, a critical priority."
The roundtable discussion will be open to the public, and the content of the discussion will be live-streamed on the SEC's website, with a video replay available afterward. This roundtable marks another step by the SEC, during Atkins' tenure, following the electronic delivery rules and the crypto regulatory framework, to further modernize the U.S. capital market infrastructure.
